Eagle School is a private school for gifted and talented students from kindergarten through 8th grade. This project addition expands the school capacity from 190-270 students and includes new classrooms for kindergarten, science, art, band, music, computers and general instruction. The new science classroom is connected to the existing science classrooms with a common greenhouse, creating a science “hub” within the school.
The project also includes a new 300-seat Performing Arts Theater and Stage to support the school’s music and performing arts program. The new wing has a separate entrance and lobby to serve the theater.
A new parking area and drop-off drive were created to reduce traffic congestion and improve safety. Additional site work included prairie restoration areas, grass paths, an amphitheater/outdoor classroom, a sledding hill, limestone retaining walls and native, durable plantings. An on-site bioswale provides stormwater infiltration to improve water quality and minimize runoff, protecting the adjacent wetlands. The site work was designed to protect a large oak tree which became the center of the expanded playground area.
The project features numerous sustainable design features, including natural daylighting; Energy Star windows; an energy efficient building envelope, including berm walls; efficient lighting, and light controls.
