Oakwood Village expanded its Prairie Ridge east side campus with a new skilled nursing building that connects with the existing independent living apartments, assisted living and memory care. This 2-story building houses 20 units per floor. Two, 10-unit households join with a central dining area that opens to an outside patio and upper balcony. The skilled nursing facility also houses physical therapy, a beauty salon, activity rooms, and a spa that can be used by other members of the campus.
This project enhances Oakwood’s commitment to a home-like atmosphere for its residents and their family members. The common spaces incorporate a variety of bright colors within the spaces that are easily identifiable to users for wayfinding. The common corridors have a wood-type floor that feels like home, but is also easily cleanable by staff. Bright, colorful artwork adorns the hallways within both wings of the corridors, dens, and family rooms. The east and west wings incorporate different color palettes to create a cheerful, enjoyable living space.
The furniture is user-friendly to staff, residents, and family members. Dining and activity room chairs are lightweight and easy for residents to move. Fabrics add splashes of color within the common and bedroom spaces that pull the building’s interior color palette together to create a memorable, home-like environment for its users.
